Greater than Me

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is 11 days away!  I’m super excited about all of the festivities for the race…there’s a pasta party on Friday night…a survivor’s breakfast on race day….a survivor’s parade immediately following the race…and the list goes on and on.

I received my official Race for the Cure t-shirt, race number, survivor hat and survivor race bib.  I’ve even been walking and hitting the elliptical machine to get somewhat conditioned for the race…

A total of 27 people are registered for team 20SomethingSurvivor!  And we’re close to reaching $150 to cover the expense of one mammogram (our team fundraising goal is $325). If you haven’t registered for the race or have not made a donation, you still have time to do so.  Click right…here…and you’ll see my personal page where you can donate to my fundraising goal or join our team.

Here are some breast care facts for the state of Arkansas from UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and Susan G. Komen Arkansas Affiliate:

The average cost for a mammogram is $150.

1 in 3 counties does not have fixed mammography services.

26 counties in Arkansas lack FDA approved certified mammography facilities.

It is estimated that 1,820 women in Arkansas were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
